Spending Time in Santa Barbara
Right in the downtown area as visitors are shopping and dinning there is the Santa Barbara Historical Museum. This is one of California’s best collections of history and artifacts of the region. This is a nice place to learn about the local history as well as some fine art and photography. There is also a natural history museum. It is set along some beautiful grounds with the Spanish style buildings and gardens. They focus on more of the California history as well as the North West Coast with the Chumash Indians and artifacts left behind. There are lots of insect exhibits as well as live reptiles. There is a wonderful display of birds and all kinds of other land and sea creatures.
Another great activity to do while in Santa Barbara is some great drives out to the wineries. This area has boomed over the past few years with some great well known wines of all varieties. Cambria makes some wonderful Pinot Noir. Qupe and Au Bon Climat make some great white and red wines and have been getting some more notice over the past couple of years. Byron is a must stop. They have some fantastic wines of different varieties and I am sure that their staff could direct you into some of the other great wineries to visit near by. The Santa Barbara Winery is also a more well known vineyard to stop at, however, don’t be timid to stop at some of the more boutique vineyards. This is were you will find some real treasures to bring home with you. There is a lot of personal care that goes into the smaller bottlers and the tastings are often a little more for the buck.
